Introduction
Many people when they start going gluten free or they think about going gluten free ask the question- Are gluten free foods healthier? In this post I will answer this question and give you some food for thought literally to think about when it comes to gluten free foods.
The truth about gluten free foods
Are gluten free foods really healthier? The short answer is often no. At least when you are looking at gluten free cookies, cakes and other sweets and processed food. In fact, my personal experience has been that many gluten free foods often have more sugar and other things in them that really aren’t good for you. If you really want to be healthy while eating gluten free, then you should be eating mostly things that are naturally gluten free like meat, vegetables and fruits. Some gluten free foods are reasonably healthy though such as brown rice pasta, crackers made with nuts and seeds and other similar products. I’ve found that the best way to make sure you aren’t making your health worse with gluten free foods is to actively read labels and to avoid assuming that just because something is gluten free it is healthy.
Here is a blog post talking about my favorite gluten free foods.
It can be frustrating when you first start going gluten free and when you find out you can’t have gluten, it can be easy to assume that you can eat anything that is gluten free but if you do that, you will soon find out that you really should still read labels in order to eat healthy and not just gluten free but healthy gluten free.
