Let’s explore the essential elements to include in your daily self-care checklist.

  1. Morning Routine: Start your day on a positive note by incorporating activities that set the tone for success. This is even more important when you have a thyroid or other autoimmune challenge. I’ve already written a post specifically about a successful morning routine for thyroid issues.
    • Waking up early- I usually wake up between 5-6 a.m.
    • Practicing mindfulness or meditation- I do this either right before going to bed, or right before waking up.
    • Stretching or engaging in light exercise- I do this within the first 20 minutes of waking up.
    • Enjoying a nutritious breakfast- I do intermitent fasting so I wait until 8-9 am to eat.

A well-rounded morning routine can boost your energy levels and improve your mental clarity throughout the day.

  1. Physical Well-being: Take care of your body by including activities that contribute to your physical health:
    • Regular exercise, whether it’s a brisk walk, a workout session, or yoga- I do this both in the morning and evening, usually within an hour of waking up or about 2 hours before going to bed.
    • Staying hydrated by drinking an adequate amount of water. I drink at least 8 oz within 15 minutes of waking up.
    • Getting enough sleep to ensure your body and mind are well-rested. I sleep at least 7 hours per night.

Prioritizing physical well-being is crucial for maintaining overall health and vitality.

  1. Mindfulness and Relaxation: Incorporate moments of mindfulness and relaxation into your daily routine:
    • Practicing deep breathing exercises
    • Taking short breaks to clear your mind. I make myself stand up and move around for 1 minue every hour. I have an alert on my phone that reminds me to do this.
    • Engaging in activities you enjoy, such as reading, listening to music, or spending time in nature

These moments of relaxation can reduce stress levels and improve your mental well-being.

  1. Nutrition: Nourish your body with a balanced and healthy diet:
    • Consuming a variety of fruits and vegetables- eat the rainbow.
    • Incorporating lean proteins and whole gluten free grains. (in moderation)
    • Limiting processed and sugary foods- I personally avoid this 100% of the time.

Proper nutrition is a fundamental aspect of self-care that directly impacts your physical and mental health.

    • Spending quality time with friends and family
    • Engaging in social activities or hobbies
    • Connecting with others through meaningful conversations

    • Learning new skills or pursuing hobbies
    • Reflecting on your achievements and challenges
