Introduction

Why is self care important? Too often when we get busy self care is the first thing to get ignored. Yet if you don’t take care of yourself, then you won’t be able to take care of others. Here are some reasons why you must have a self care routine.

Boosts Energy Levels – Taking time for yourself helps recharge your body and mind, reducing fatigue and increasing vitality. I recommend taking at least 1 full day for self care every month. Everyone needs to recharge their batteries in order to fully function including you.

Reduces Stress & Anxiety – Self-care practices like meditation, journaling, and deep breathing lower cortisol levels, helping you feel calmer and more balanced. Stress is one of the causes of autoimmune disorders and poor gut health. You really must work on having less stress and regular self care can help with this.

Supports Immune Health – Chronic stress weakens the immune system, but consistent care of yourself strengthens it, helping your body fight off illness. If you are always taking care of others, then you will likely get sick more often than if you focus on self care at least some of the time.

Enhances Mental Clarity – Regular self-care improves focus, productivity, and decision-making by giving your brain the rest it needs. Your brain can get busy trying to go go go but you really need to relax and be still at least some of the time and self care can help with this.

Promotes Emotional Well-being – Engaging in emotional wellbeing activities like gratitude journaling or therapy helps regulate emotions and enhances resilience. I also like to use essential oils for emotional wellbeing.

Encourages Better Sleep – Relaxing nighttime routines, such as herbal tea, reading, or gentle stretching, can improve sleep quality. Meditation is always a good idea as well.

Improves Physical Health – Exercise, proper nutrition, and body care (like massages or Epsom salt baths) support long-term health and mobility.

Increases Self-Worth & Confidence – Prioritizing yourself sends the message to yourself that you are valuable, boosting self-esteem.

Strengthens Relationships – When you take care of yourself, you show up as a better friend, partner, and family member, enhancing your connections.

Prevents Burnout – A self-care routine creates balance in your life, preventing overwhelm and ensuring you can sustain long-term success.
