Have you ever wondered what essential oil recipes for sleep will work for you? If you are like many people, you’ve already tried straight lavender essential oil for sleep and it may have helped or maybe it didn’t do much, and in any case, you want to find some essential oil recipes for sleep that will work better. 

Here are the main single essential oils that have some research and other studies done that indicate they can help improve your sleep. 

Lavender

Roman Chamomile

Vetiver

Cedarwood

Hawaiian Sandalwood

Copaiba

In order to create an essential oil recipe for sleep you can do a couple of things. First, you can try each one of the oils on this list by themselves. Second, you can try combining two, three, or four of those oils from the list above or really any others you enjoy and that have a calming effect on you. I recommend starting with 2-3 drops of each oil. You can try them in a diffuser while you sleep, or you can try combining them with a carrier oil and rubbing them on your feet and wrists, or you can put them with distilled water into a spray bottle. I’ve found that either almond oil or fractionated coconut oil is the best carrier oil to use. 

You will probably need to experiment with different combinations to find the one that works best for you.  The other option you have is to buy a premade blend designed to help with sleep. Personally I love the serenity blend and I’ve found the capsules that are formulated for internal use to work even better than the essential oil. 

I recommend using a pen and paper or a journal to track how well you sleep with each blend or combination. Write down the date, what time you went to bed, what time you woke up, how many times you woke up during the night, and how refreshed you were throughout the day. If you have a sleep tracker like an Oura Ring or an iwatch, then you can get some analytics and stats to help you determine and compare how each essential oil or blend is impacting your sleep.
