Are you looking for thyroid friendly recipes? Thyroid health is an important aspect of overall wellness, and one way to support your thyroid is through the food you eat. If you have a doctor who tells you the food you eat doesn’t matter for good thyroid health, you should fire them and get a new doctor.

Here are a few delicious and easy-to-make recipes that are great for those with thyroid issues.

  1. Seared Salmon with Lemon-Dill Sauce: This dish is high in omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to support thyroid health. To make the lemon-dill sauce, combine 1/4 cup of dairy free yogurt, 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, and 1 tablespoon of fresh chopped dill. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a tablespoon of olive oil. Season your salmon fillets with salt and pepper and place them in the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until the salmon is cooked through. Serve with the lemon-dill sauce on top. You can also try just using the lemon and dill without the dairy free yogurt.
  2. Spinach and Feta Stuffed Chicken Breast: Spinach is a great source of iron, which is important for those with thyroid issues. To make this dish, stuff your chicken breast with a mixture of chopped spinach, crumbled feta cheese, (dairy free if needed, I find I can handle a little feta cheese if I’m not eating a lot of other dairy) and a sprinkle of garlic powder. Season the outside of the chicken breast with salt and pepper. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a tablespoon of olive oil. Place the chicken breast in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until the chicken is cooked through. You can also trying cooking this in an air fryer.
  3. Quinoa and Black Bean Salad: This salad is high in fiber, which can help support a healthy thyroid. To make the salad, combine cooked quinoa, black beans, diced tomatoes, diced bell pepper, and chopped fresh cilantro. For the dressing, mix together the juice of 1 lime, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and 1/2 teaspoon of cumin. Season with salt and pepper to taste. If night shades bother you, you can try skipping the tomato and pepper and adding in some chicken instead.
  4. Turmeric-Ginger Tea: Turmeric and ginger are natural anti-inflammatory agents, which can be helpful for those with thyroid issues. To make the tea, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of grated ginger and 1 teaspoon of ground turmeric. Reduce the heat and let simmer for 10 minutes. Strain and sweeten with honey if desired. Personally I have to have the honey or it’s just too bitter for me.
  5. Broccoli and Cheese Soup: Broccoli is rich in Vitamin C, which helps support healthy thyroid function. To make the soup, sauté some diced onion and minced garlic in a pot with some butter. Add some chicken or vegetable broth, diced broccoli, and shredded dairy free cheese. (I like the Follow My Heart brand the best). Let simmer for 15 minutes or until the broccoli is tender. Puree the soup if you like and enjoy.

These are just a few examples of thyroid-friendly recipes that you can try at home. Remember that it’s always a good idea to talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian before making any major changes to your diet. Make sure to find one who understands the complications of thyroid disorders. (Not all of them do, in fact, most don’t.)
