How to Choose an Aromatherapy Diffuser

Choosing an aromatherapy diffuser can be a challenge, yet it is an important one in order to help kill the bacteria and viruses that are in the air. I have the second diffuser pictured above and I run it all night and sometimes during the day too. I use a variety of essential oils mixed with hot water. I like to rotate between lavender, wild orange and peppermint, eucalyptus and ylang ylang. I also use others on occasion based on my particular need at the time. That said, there are a lot of diffusers on the market. The first one pictured is a more expensive one that I don’t have and there are several others. Here are a couple of things to think about when purchasing an aromatherapy diffuser:

1. How long do you want to be able to run your diffuser without it stopping and needing to have more water and oils? Times vary according to the diffuser. The one I use as pictured runs for about 7 hours. I have another one that is not pictured that can run from 1 hour to 8 hours depending upon how often you schedule the water to spray into the air.

2. How much oil do you want to use at once? Both of the ones I own, use just a few drops in each batch of water. There are others that require you to attach a bottle of oil to the diffuser and these have a tendency to use a lot more oil and at a much quicker rate.

3. How much space do you have for storage? Not all diffusers take up the same amount of space.

4. What is your budget? Diffusers have a variety of costs. The one I own as pictured above costs $20 whereas I have another one that is $65 and the first one pictured costs $100. Price is not everything though as I actually prefer my $20 one over my $65 one.

As I’ve been on my journey the past year and half in learning about essential oils and how to use them for healing and wellness as well as for aromatherapy, I’ve been reading a lot of books and listening to a lot of training. Some books are better than others and Aromatherapy: A Complete Guide to the Healing Art
is one of the best books on aromatherapy I’ve read. This book contains a lot of recipes just like in other books on aromatherapy but it also has sections on medical aromatherapy, fatigue, memory, dangerous oils, anxiety and fear, sexuality, depression and more. There are also sections on using essential oils for bath and skin care and for using in the kitchen. Overall this is a comprehensive and very good book on aromatherapy and using essential oils.

What is Aromatherapy?

What words come to mind when you hear the word aromatherapy? If you are like most people, then you probably think perfume, massage, candles, smells, scents. That is what I thought before I was introduced to essential oils. However, I have since learned that aromatherapy is much more than that. In fact, you could say that aromatherapy is the usage of essential oils and smells to assist in the healing and overall wellness of the body. The term aromatherapy is also used in regards to the science of perfumes. People who are master aromatherapists learn how to blend essential oils in various ways in order to assist in natural healing of a variety of health elements and conditions.

While I am certainly not a master at aromatherapy, I’ve learned a lot and I plan to keep learning more. One of the best places I found to learn aromatherapy for beginners is Aroma Therapy Online Course.
