What do you do about an impossible to avoid allergen? If you are lucky that allergen that you need to avoid is something like pollen in the air which while you cannot avoid it, you can take some kind of medication to help. However, what do you do about impossible to avoid allergens that aren’t that simple?

It can be really complicated and annoying. For example, I recently for some unknown reason, I developed an allergy to lemon, lime, orange, and grapefruit. While it might seem like no big deal, just don’t eat lemons, limes, oranges or grapefruit duh. However, I soon discovered that it is much more complicated than that. What many people don’t realize is that these fruits are added to everything you can think of including but not limited to:

Chicken and Fish burgers
Corn Chips
Salad dressings

and many other things. At first, I really tried to avoid them. However, it didn’t seem to matter how much I read labels and did my research, I would still end up somehow getting some lemon or lime in me. (I found lemon and lime the 2 hardest to avoid) I might also add that I’m not talking about some minor reaction. I was having UTIS over and over or at least what I thought were UTIS and they were really painful.

So what did I do?

Fortunately for me, I discovered that at least part of the cause for my reactions was due to stress and a higher amount of acidity in my body. So by recognizing this and working to reduce stress in my life and by drinking alkaline water, I have now been able to tolerate small amounts of lemon, lime, orange or grapefruit. I still don’t eat these fruits but if I get some in a salad dressing, or when eating out, I am okay.

But what if those things don’t work for you?

1. Stress can and does cause allergies and some other health issues so take a look at the role that stress might be playing with your hard to avoid allergens.

2. Use a mask when going outside or being around large groups of people.

3. Try acupuncture– yes really. My allergies are a lot less since I began doing acupuncture treatments.

4. Download my free allergy toolkit below and go through the checklists.

5. Consider allergy shots.

6. Consider if candida or a yeast infection might be behind your allergies.

And of course, do what you can to avoid that allergen.

One of the readers of this blog sent me an email about a month ago and asked me this question: How do I make my car allergen free? It has had lots of animals in it and I’ve tried everything I can think of to get rid of the allergens.

So I thought I would address this in a blog post. This information will apply to both cars, homes, a room in a house and anything else that are trying to make allergen free.

1. Know and understand that depending upon the animals, pollen, dust, or other allergens that have been in the car or room in the past, you may not be able to make that space totally allergen free. That is just a reality and is another reason why you need to take action to take charge of your own health with diet, nutrition, supplements and more.

2. Purchase hypoallergenic cases, and covers for the car seats and for any furniture that you have. These can help protect them and make it a lot harder for allergens to hide inside them.

3. If the carpet has not been replaced recently consider replacing it. This applies only to rooms in a house and you will want to test a sample of the carpet before doing it.

4. Stop cleaning your house and car with commercial cleaners and chemicals. Use natural cleaners instead. This can be huge for many people and most people do not understand this but cleaners have allergens in them and can make allergies worse for many people.

5. Consider re-painting the room if at all possible.

6. Hire a professional to thoroughly re-clean your car using as many green cleaners and as few chemicals as possible.
