I self published my autism story in my book: A Spectrum of Miracles: Hope and Healing for Parents of Children with Autism on Amazon last September. I have spent the last five years or so thinking about writing a book and last year I finally decided to do it. Over the years I’ve had various people ask me about my autism story and tell me to write a book. I also came to the realization that many parents of children on the autism spectrum can learn from and be inspired by my story. So I finally took the leap and wrote it. I chose the theme of miracles because not only is my life a miracle but I’ve experienced many miracles throughout my life and I’ve noticed that many other children with autism have experienced miracles too.
One of my goals with my business is to help parents of children with autism to recognize the miracles and the blessings that come with having a child on the spectrum. This is another goal for my book. My hope is that parents who read this book will realize this. I also wrote the book for other adults on the spectrum who would like to learn from and be inspired by another adult with autism.
At the end of each chapter I included a healthy recipe that follows the gluten free casein free diet and an essential oil blend that I have found helpful. As a child I was on the gluten free casein free diet for years and I feel like it really helped me. As an adult I have gone back on it 90% of the time. The recipes are from meals that my mom used to serve me on a regular basis and they are favorites that I still enjoy today as an adult. As an essential oils educator and coach I have found that essential oils really are essential for everyone but especially children and adults on the autism spectrum with other challenges as they can be used in a variety of ways to support their physical and emotional well-being.
The book is full of stories from my growing up years and covers my life from my near death at the age of 17 months to approximately the age of 23. For privacy reasons I do not mention the names of any of my siblings, neighbors, friends or anyone else mentioned in the book. While the book is only 102 pages including the resources list, I decided not to include anything from my life during the past 20-22 years. Instead I will likely write another book and focus on the later part of my life. Throughout the book I also include tips based on my experiences that I hope will help other parents. At some point I also plan to create a workbook to go along with my book.
If you would like to read the first chapter for free you can download it here.
