Have you ever used the app yummly? If not, then you are really missing out. the image above is a screen capture of my current home screen of the yummly app on my phone. I’ve tried a lot of meal planning apps and I have to say that yummly has become by far my favorite.
Here is how it works:
1. You sign up and create an account.
2. Then you customize the kinds of meals you would like recipes for. This includes specifying if all of your recipes need to be gluten free, dairy free, nut free, not have read meat etc. You can choose anything you want to exclude for any reason. So for example, if you don’t like cucumbers then you can ask for recipes that do not include these. From then on the only recipes that appear are those that fit what you have asked for. You can also search for recipes by ingredient. For example, broccoli or avocado.
3. Then you can start looking at recipes. For each recipe it tells you the serving size, the number of ingredients, the number of calories, how long it will take to prepare that recipe and it has a rating with reviews from people who have cooked that recipe.
4. You can organize your recipes by lists. Add favorites. Share the recipes you find via email and on your social networks and more. You can also add the ingredients for a particular recipe to a shopping list that you can then take to the store, or in some areas you can even order the products for home delivery. (Unfortunately this feature of the yummly app is not yet available in my area so I haven’t tried that part.)
I really like this app a lot. There is a wide variety of recipes and I’ve found all kinds of healthy and delicious recipes. If I’m trying to come up with something for dinner and don’t know what to cook, I can open up yummly and can also find something quick, easy and delicious. You can also search for recipes by category, drinks, sides, breakfasts, desserts, dinners etc.
Bob’s Red Mill Flours are by far my favorite gluten free flours and in this review post I’m going to tell you why. Have you ever tried to make your own gluten free flour mixes? If so, you probably are aware that it’s actually much harder than most people think. Personally I’ve decided not to even bother with making my own gluten free flours and while I’ve tried several brands Bob’s Red Mill Flours are my favorite. I’ve found that there consistency and taste is really great and another think I like is that most of their flours are very versatile and can be used for multiple recipes. For example you can make bread with the pancake mix, or muffins with the bread mix whereas with many other brands of gluten free flours you have to use them for one or two specific kinds of recipes otherwise it won’t work. The pricing of these flours is also really good. Yes, they do still cost a bit more than wheat based flours but the cost is really only marginally more whereas some brands are a lot more expensive.
Here are a few of my favorites:
Note: These are amazon affiliate links so I will earn a small commission if you buy through my links. That said, I’ve price shopped quite a bit and amazon really does have the best prices on these gluten free flours.
I admit I have an addiction to these cookies. Enjoy life allergen free cookies are so good it’s surprising that they don’t have any gluten, diary, nuts, egg, fish or soy in them. They are so good. They come in chocolate brownie, chocolate chip, gingerbread spice and snickerdoodle flavors. I’m not sure if I have a favorite, I love all 4 kinds. You can get them at most grocery stores although Amazon also carries them for less money than at most stores. They are relatively small cookies but eating 2-3 will still satisfy you for a good snack. They are not really low fat or low calories though so you want to be careful to not eat too many. 2 cookies has 120 calories and 50 from fat. That said these enjoy life cookies are a great alternative for those of use with food allergies or who want to avoid the chemicals and preservatives that are in nearly every other store bought cookie.
