What do you think of when you hear essential oil sourcing? If you are like the average person you probably really don’t think much of it. In fact, you may even think that essential oil sourcing isn’t all that important. However, essential oil sourcing is actually crucial for a quality essential oil. In fact essential oil sourcing is what makes the difference between the best highest quality therapeutic grade and medicinal quality essential oils and cheaper less quality essential oils that are less effective.
For example, even though I live in Utah I could grow lavender in my yard, get a simple extractor device and attempt to create my own lavender essential oil. However, whatever I could come up with no matter who hard I tried, I wouldn’t be able to create the same lavender essential oil as that which is grown in France or Bulgaria. The reality is that the weather, environment, country of origin and sometimes even state or region of origin as well as time of day and other factors are crucial when it comes to essential oil sourcing. Lemon from Italy is completely different from lemon in Florida and so on.
The other factor that must be considered is the part of the plant used. Extracting an essential oil from the leaves of a plant is a lot difference than extracting from the bark of a tree. Furthermore some essential oil companies combine essential oils from more than one part of a plant into the same bottle. As a result the label may say 100% pure therapeutic grade essential oil but it’s not the same as a bottle of essential oil only from the leaves, while both may contain 100% plant ingredients.
