Have you thought about getting into the fundraising business? Helping organizations and groups fundraise can be a fun and profitable business and you can also help make a difference at the same time. However, it can be difficult to know how to get into the fundraising business and how to make it successful. Here are a few tips to consider.
1. What product or products will you offer? This is crucial since the fundraising business has a lot of competition and many groups will not be willing to work with you unless you have high quality products.
2. Will you only offer fundraisers? Or will you do fundraisers and parties, or other activities to make money with your business? There are advantages to both and you need to decide what you will do.
3. Will you make and manufacture the products yourself? Or will you partner with a direct sales or wholesaling company to supply the products. If you have a unique idea, then you could make the products yourself, however, you will have to invest significantly more money into your business and it will take more time and there is always the potential for increased failure if you try this option. So for most people, partnering with some kind of company that already manufactures products makes the most sense.
4. How will you promote your fundraisers? There are lots of methods, some of which are more effective than others and it helps greatly if you have some contacts with non-profit groups and organizations.
5. How will you make money with your fundraisers? Many groups either require or expect to make 40-50% of the cost of the product in profit for the group. So it is crucial that you either sell a product with a higher markup or that you have a way to collect more orders later at full price.
Once you have thought through these questions, then you are ready to get started with a successful fundraising business.
