Facebook friend or fan? I’m changing how I do things- here’s why.

Are you my facebook friend? or my facebook fan?

If you are like most of the people I have connected with in the past on facebook, then you are my friend and for a small selection of you, you are my fan or my friend and my fan. In the future however, I plan to grow my fan base to be much larger than my friend base.

I’m changing how I do business on facebook and here’s why:

1. I have had some of my real life friends and family members tell me that while they don’t mind seeing some of my business stuff, they have started to block me because it is too much.

2. Although I have done some great business deals on facebook and made pretty good money, facebook is a great tool and I don’t feel that I am using it or getting as much out of it as I would like to.

3. Many of the big name internet marketers and social media experts have blogged about how they are unfriending all of their business contacts and asking them to be fans instead and keeping their profile to only those they know in real life. While I am not going to do this, I understand why they are doing it and I have decided to strike a happy medium instead.

4. I would like to be able to share more of me, my life experiences, stories, photos, and other things that while they may touch on or have some aspects of business involved are not specific to my business and at the same time keep offering the value and content via blog posts, articles and videos than many of my fellow network marketers and small business friends and contacts have come to expect from me.

5. I would like my friends to be able to decide what they would like to see from me and what they would not, without having to block me or without becoming confused.

So from now on- here is what I will be doing:

All of my online business, social media and network marketing specific blog posts, articles and videos will only appear on my fan page. So if you want to read these things you will need to become my fan.

I will be encouraging more of my friends to be fans, especially those interested in online business and I have changed my friend badge on my websites and blogs to my fan badge.

My profile will become more personal and my notes will include more stories, quotes and items of a more personal nature and of a wide interest to more people especially those who may not have or may not want a home business. Any videos or photos I post will focus around my life, my goals and my dreams rather than just my business and I will limit these to no more than one per day instead of 4-5 per day like I have posted in the past.

Any links I share will be content I found online that I thought anyone would enjoy or find useful and not just my business oriented friends.

From time to time, I will share events or other tidbits that may be business related on my profile but that is all.

So are you my facebook friend, my fan, or both?

Looking forward to connecting with you and to continuing to getting to know you on facebook.
