The hard ugly truth about working from home jobs

Do you dream about finding a work from home job? Many people do especially those with young children. In fact, who doesn’t want to find one of the working from home jobs you see advertised or talked about? However, there are some facts and truths about working from home jobs that many people either don’t know about or don’t consider.

1. Most working from home jobs aren’t what they seem. Most involve talking on the phone all day, large amounts of typing, and other rather mundane and boring tasks.

2. Most working from home jobs are extremely low paid. The reason most companies offer working from home jobs at all is because they are trying to save money. In order to do this, they pay their work from home employees a lot less money than those who work in their offices. In fact, unless you have specialized IT, medical or legal expertise, you will find that most work from home jobs pay less than $12 an hour and most pay around $8-$10 an hour. This really isn’t a lot of money. In fact, most companies who hire both employees to work in office and at home, pay their work from home employees less than their in office employees and sometimes it’s a lot less.

3. When companies go through lay offs, the work from home employees are usually the first ones laid off. There are however, some exceptions such as Jet Blue who only hires work from home employees for their phone jobs. So this isn’t the case 100% of the time, but it is the case most of the time.

4. Competition for working from home jobs can be very stiff. Since virtually everyone dreams of working from home, when their are openings, it can be very difficult to actually be hired.

5. Most of these jobs also require in office training for at least a few weeks and many require you to work in office from time to time. The numbers of working from home jobs that are actually at home all of the time are rare.

In summary working from home with a job isn’t the golden goose many people think it is. In fact, the best way to make a decent income long term while working from home is to start your own business. That is just the reality. Sure you can make some money without your own business but for most people it won’t be enough to earn a living.

How to Make Money Selling Books

selling books

Have you considered that you can make money selling books as a way to make money working from home? If you are like most people you have considered this, but probably didn’t realize how much money you can really make by selling books. In fact, it is possible with some work to make more money selling books than you might think. Furthermore, this can be done on your own schedule and you really only have to leave your house to mail the books and for a weekly trip to go find more books to sell.

Here are the main ways you can make money working from home selling books.

1. Write your own books and sell them on Kindle. This may not be what you had considered but it is doable. This is especially true if you have some writing skills and knowledge on a variety of topics. It is also quite a bit easier to do than you might think. I’ve published several books I’ve written on kindle and while I haven’t made tons of money selling books there, it can be done. Check out this book to learn more. 2. Amazon affiliate. This is where you sell the books that others have written and are selling on Amazon as an Amazon affiliate. This option works best if you also have a blog you can use to promote your affiliate links for selling books via Amazon.

3. Sell books you already own on Amazon. If you are like most people you have lots of books lying around the house and many of them you probably haven’t read in months if not years. Gather together the books you haven’t read in awhile and may not ever read again and put them up for sale on Amazon. Some books will sell better than others. You want to focus on selling those that have a good chance of selling for $5 or more and that have fewer than 20 people selling the same book.

4. Find books at thrift shops, yard sales, library book sales and other book sales and resell them on Amazon. This is the best way to make a lot of money selling books. You can also sell books on Ebay and other online sites. You want to research how much books are selling for and how many people are selling that title before you buy the books at thrift stores or a library sale however. This usually will require you to spend some time looking through the books to find those that will sell. Not every book you can get for cheap will sell so you want to take your time looking. In general non-fiction books sell for more than fiction books.

The Perks of an Essential Oils Home Business

Have you considered the perks of an essential oils home business? A lot of people think about starting an essential oils business but they don’t really realize all the perks and benefits that come with it. Here are some of the perks and benefits I’ve noticed from having an essential oils home business.

1. I get to use high quality essential oils for free. Well almost. Ever since I started my essential oils home business in 2011, I’ve made at least enough money to pay for my monthly shipments of essential oils and other essential oil based wellness products. I covered my auto-ship costs from the very first month. I can teach you how to do the same.

2. I get to work when I want, where I want and with who I want. While I still as of the writing of this post have another job for at least 6 months of the year, I still get to work on my business when I want, where I want and with who I want. That said as a business I do have to work on it for at least 1 hour per day and ideally up to 3 hours per day. I also don’t work with everyone. I choose people primarily through application. This lets me work with people who work well with me. I also do most of my work online so I can work anywhere I have access to the internet.

3. I get to help change lives and get paid to do it. Lots of people want to change the world but it’s even better when you can get paid to do it.

4. I get to learn a lot about health and wellness and get paid to do it. This information benefits me when I get sick or when others I know have health challenges because I am able to coach them, and help them in ways I couldn’t without the knowledge I have from my essential oils business.

5. I don’t have to worry about what will happen when I retire because I will also have some money coming in with residual income. I’m working on increasing it so that I will have a lot more but even now I know that I will have some money.

6. I get to control how much I make by how much effort I put forth and how many people I share and sell essential oils with.
