7 Aspects of a Legitimate Home Business

When searching for a home business, you will no doubt come across all kinds of offers and promises by various people to help you getting started. However, unfortunately there are lots of scam artists and people who make their money taking advantage of home business opportunity seekers. So it is important that you understand what to look for in a legitimate home business.

1. A true legitimate home business will cost money. However, it will not cost a lot of money and depending upon the business it will usually be around a couple of hundred dollars to get started. Along with the fees, a valid company will indicate to you exactly what you will get for your money and you will be able to see pictures of the kits online.

2. There is a phone number for you to contact customer service and the company. When you call it, you will be able to speak with someone even if you are not yet doing business with them. Many scammers do not have a phone number with live personnel ready to assist.

3. The company’s full address is listed on their website and it is not a P.O. Box. A legitimate home business will have this as many fake opportunities use a P.O. Box to hide behind the fact that they are a fake operation using a home or garage.

4. They are registered with the Better Business Bureau. Although there are some exceptions, for the most party legitimate companies will be registered with them, have a satisfactory rating and tell you this on their website.

5. You are able to get testimonials and to speak with other people who have been successful with the same home business. If others have been successful, then your odds are good, however, if it is a scam then you will not be able to find anyone else who has been successful to speak with.

6. It has the look and feel of a real business with real products. Envelope stuffing, offers to make money typing at home, and offers to make and sell wood or craft products at home are almost always scams. Examples of legitimate home businesses which are seldom scams include things such as selling candles, makeup, food, or clothing or helping people with travel or phone services.

7. Use your common sense. If it seems to good to be true, then it probably is. Promises to make an unreal amount of money overnight are another sign of a scam or something that is not what it seems.
